The village of Malamocco

Metamauco or Meduaco was the early centre prior to Malamocco. Disappeared forever around 1106-07, Metamauco was also the bishop’s seat until the diocese of Chioggia was transferred in the XII century. Today the village of Malamocco is a small typically Venetian centre, with alleys and squares. The XV century Gothic Palazzo Pretoria which clearly bears the coat-of-arms of Malamocco in Istrian stone. A beautiful house with Gothic arches, also dating from the XV century and overlooking the square, is worthy of note. The Mercerie or the filled-in “ Canale degli Ortolani” and the “ Piazza delle Erbe “ lead to the ancient Borgo Bridge, with its characteristic arch, decorated with coat -of- arms and memorial stone.
